How to overcome stress
Monday, July 25, 2005
How to relieve from stress and how to overcome the fear when i am speaking in a group of people eg. in office.Stress is a contributor to mental anguish and fear. You should prepare and consolidate your thoughts before speaking to a group of people.
To relieve your stress you may follow certain stress management skills:
1. Relaxation skills like yoga may be helpful in managing stress and reducind maladaptive behaviour patterns.
2. Self observations of antecedents of events, behaviour response to the events and consequences. This self-observation makes an indiviual aware of how to change behaviour to more effectively manage stress.
3. Cognitive restructuring helps to develop rational responses that represent a more accurate and helpful thinking response to situations.
4. Time management methods that may help to restore a sense of balance to your life.
5. Problem solving involves implementing the best solution after analysing problematic aspects of a stressful event. We hope these stress management skills which have been discussed briefly may be helpful to you in relieving stress.

Body Language

Learn the trick to reading body language and find out what people are really saying!

You are having a conversation with your boss. You have asked for a raise, but he has told you there is no money in the departmental budget. Of course, you would like to believe him, but still you wonder if he is telling you the truth or not. By reading his body language, you can tell whether he is being truthful with you or if he is just giving you an excuse. How do you do this? Read on and find out!
Body language is defined as a type of communication between one or more persons which does not utilize verbal words. Instead, body language is read by each person by carefully watching the facial expressions, hand gestures, posture, and leg movements made by another person.
Each one of us, whether we realize it or not, uses body language in our every day lives. One type of person, for example, who makes a conscious effort not to use any sort of body language, especially facial expressions, or maybe would only use it to fool his or her opponents, would be a professional poker player. Hence the term "poker faced." This strategy assures the player that their opponents cannot possibly tell, by his or her body language, what kind of a card hand they have. That is, whether they have a winning hand or are just trying to bluff their opponents.
You can learn how to "read" other people's body language by learning some of the most typical body movements. How many times have you cleared your throat, bitten your fingernails, wring your hands, or paced the floor? These are all typical body signs of nervousness. Confidence, or a feeling of power,on the other hand, can be seen in a person when they lock their fingers together and place them behind their head or behind their back. If a person pulls away from you, or keeps their distance, literally, this usually means they are either shy or nervous. This also applies to a person who won't look you in the eye or who keeps their face down and turned away from you. Either what they are saying is a lie, or they are nervous and unsure of themselves. They might even be lying to you. Smiles are normally construed as showing happiness, affection, and honesty, but beware of a person who smiles through clenched-teeth, or smiles in a tight-lipped manner. These are forced smiles and can be meant to try and fooled you.
How many times have you shaken hands with a person? Sometimes the other person will grasp your hand in a strong manner and shake it firmly. Other times, you feel like you're shaking a wet noodle. The difference? The strong, firm handshake usually is given by a person who is sure and confident of themselves. The wet noodle-type shake is usually the opposite. People who give these types of handshakes are either nervous, shy, insecure, or afraid of interaction with other people.
Always watch a person's eyes, hands, arms, legs, and facial expressions when you are conversing with them. Especially if you are talking business and need to know their true feelings, it is especially important to read their body language and not just listen to the words they are saying. Because no matter what their words are saying to you, remember that sometimes, "actions can speak louder than words."
